Its floor plan was studied and recorded by many foreign archaeologists of the last century, the last ones being Michaud and Blecon. It occupies an area (together with the Acropolis), about 150 acres. The entire area inside and outside the walls, during the first post-revolutionary years, was occupied by the rural inhabitants, cleared of the remaining ancient buildings and turned into irrigated fields.
